My Non-Toxic Makeup Routine

This post has been a long time coming! I love makeup. For years I loved following beauty trends, watching tutorials and eyeing the newest products that hit Sephora. When I first started transitioning to a non-toxic lifestyle, I naively thought that because my makeup collection was expensive, it must be clean. Wrong! To be honest, I have no idea why brands like Urban Decay, Too Faced, Benefit, etc. cost so much, because it’s not because their ingredients are clean. Some of these high end brands use ingredients like parabens, talc, fragrance + more.

A few months ago, I finally bit the bullet and did a full overhaul of my makeup collection. I placed an order from Organic Bunny, which is a clean beauty website with tons of clean beauty brands compiled into one space—she also has lightning fast shipping. I found a few other clean staples to round out my collection and am super excited to share my finds! Take a look at a few of my clean makeup favs!

Honest Beauty Everything Primer - Glow

First things first: Primer, to help your makeup stay put! This might just be my favorite primer I’ve ever used—actually, yes, it definitely is! I have dry skin and usually primers are mattifying, drawing attention to my dry spots. This primer is dewy, without being greasy. And moisturizing while still being “tacky”. It’s the perfect amount of glow, without sparkle, too!

Price: $21.99

W3LL People Bio Tint Moisturizing Foundation

This might be my favorite foundation that I’ve ever used. It is a medium-buildable foundation that has great coverage without being cakey. It also has 30 SPF 30 from zinc—not a chemical sunscreen. Never thought I’d use a foundation where one of the main players is broccoli oil, but here I am!

Color: Fair

Price: $30

HAN Skin Care Bronzer

Love this bronzer! It’s hard to find a bronzer that isn’t orange-y, but this one is the perfect matte brown. You can build it up to be a contour, or use it as an overall warmth.

Color: Malibu

Price: $16

Lily Lolo Pressed Blush

I didn’t expect this blush to be as pigmented as it is—the first time I used it I spun the brush way too much, expecting that I would need to, and got so much product on the brush! The blush is pressed in a plastic compact, but they also make a loose mineral blush.

Color: Tickled Pink

Price: $20

Lily Lolo Illuminator (Highlighter)

To be honest, this highlight is pretty subtle—but it’s perfect for everyday wear, in my opinion! It gives a warm glow, without being super glittery. If you’re looking for something a bit more dramatic, I would recommend this highlighter from Crunchi. Overall, I really like the Lily Lolo highlighter for day-to-day wear.

Color: Champagne

Price: $26

W3LL People Expressionist Brow Gel

I’ve been moving away from structured brow to something that looks a little more natural. This brow gel is applied with a wand brush. A little goes a long way!

Color: Blonde

Price: $17.99

Honest Beauty Extreme Mascara + Lash Primer

I really like this mascara! It has a slim, silicone wand rather than a brush-like brush. The formula and brush help to lengthen my lashes and give them a lift. Plus, it’s double-sided with a lash primer to help lengthen and separate the lashes after I use a curler, but before the mascara goes on.

Price: $14.99

W3LL People Nudist Eyeshadow Palette

Staple colors for eyeshadow! I want to get the other set as well, which is taupe shades. I love that these shadows don’t have talc, which is pretty hard to find even in clean brands! Plus, it’s inexpensive as far as clean beauty palettes go.

Color: Violet Based Hues

Price: $19

Lily Lolo Makeup Mist

I love this setting spray—especially the fact that it’s relatively inexpensive, in comparison to many high-end and clean brands alike! It seems to keep my makeup set in place for the day, too. I like to spray 3 or 4 sprays on my face after my face makeup, but before my mascara, to make sure it doesn’t smudge.

Price: $18

Still looking for a favorite lip color to round out my collection, so let me know if you have a clean suggestion! I’ve been eyeing this liquid lipstick from Au Naturale—we’ll see if I snag it anytime soon!
